Solar kits in Alicante are advertised everywhere: boxes of panels, an inverter and fixings that promise to plug in and save. They make sense in some cases and fall short in others. This guide helps you tell the difference.
What a solar kit actually is
A kit is a predefined set: a few panels, an inverter and sometimes mounting and cables, with a fixed power. It is sold as a quick, low-cost solution. Some are meant to connect to your home network, others are for off-grid use such as a shed or caravan.
When a kit can be enough
A kit can be reasonable for a small home with low consumption, a holiday flat used a few days a year, a shed or a specific use such as a small irrigation pump. Savings are modest in those cases and a simple set may do.
When a full installation is better
If you live in a villa with a pool and air conditioning, a fixed kit probably will not match your consumption or your roof. A tailored solar panel installation lets you choose the size, make better use of the roof and leave everything properly documented.
Registration: the step people forget
A system connected to the grid needs technical documentation, registration and, if it sends surplus energy to the grid, an agreement with your supplier. With a professional installation the installer deals with this. With a kit it often falls on the buyer.
How to decide
Compare how much you use, how much roof you have and how much you want to cover. If a kit will not cover at least 30% to 40% of your daytime use, or cannot be expanded later, it may be better to invest a little more from the start. If you are unsure, tell us about your home and we will help you weigh it up.
